Être invité à lister mon top 10 des quintas célibataires Les ports est presque aussi intimidant que la perspective de devoir choisir mes morceaux préférés pour les disques Desert Island de Radio 4. Avec tous les rebondissements dramatiques du fleuve Douro et de ses affluents, il y a tellement de propriétés captivantes: certaines proéminentes, d'autres cachées. Certaines sont de minuscules exploitations (de subsistance ou d'agriculture de loisir), d'autres sont plus majestueuses, et rien de plus que Quinta do Vesúvio dans le Douro Supérieur qui couvre plus de 300 ha.
L'objectif de cet article est le porto unique quinta millésimé (SQVP), mais si la catégorie croissante des vins du Douro non fortifiés avait été introduite dans l'équation, j'aurais choisi un top 10 différent avec des domaines tout aussi enchanteurs, tels que Quinta do Vallado, Quinta do Crasto, Quinta do Vale Meão et Quinta da Leda de Ferreira - tous sont certains d'être sur ma liste restreinte dans ce cas.
Certaines des propriétés ci-dessous (telles que Quinta do Noval, Quinta de la Rosa et Quinta do Vesúvio) sont devenues des expéditeurs à part entière, produisant une gamme de vins (à la fois de Porto et du Douro) ainsi qu'un seul Quinta Vintage Porto presque tous an. D'autres sont une partie importante des plus gros expéditeurs tels que Graham's, Sandeman ou Taylor's, et les années déclarées, leur production contribue à leurs mélanges de Porto vintage.
Il va presque sans dire que tous ces vignobles sont enregistrés dans la catégorie «A» dans le système de classification officiel qui détermine la quantité de Porto que chaque propriété peut gagner en une année.
Au moment d'écrire ces lignes, le Douro vient de vivre l'une de ses années les plus chaudes jamais enregistrées. Après une succession d'années chaudes (et un changement climatique imminent), il reste à voir si l'altitude peut devenir un avantage dans les années à venir (les altitudes plus élevées étant un facteur défavorable dans le système de classification actuel).
